The Board of Directors of the Central States Judges Association has decreed that the following recorders are required for anyone who judges MSBA events. Other events may or may not also use these recorders, so do not throw away your tape recorders. If you are unsure which recorder you will be using at a show and you are assigned to an event other than an MSBA show, check with your chief judge. But, if you are assigned to a MSBA show from here forward, you MUST have two of these recorders available for your use during the show. These recorders should be marked with your name so that the hosts can properly return the recorder to you on the rotation during the evening.
The required recorder is the Sony Digital Voice Recorder ICD-PX312. The Sony site lists the ICD-PX820 as no longer available, although a check of some websites (eBay primarily) shows them still available. I bought a refurbished ICD-PX820 for $40 on eBay in early September, and it works beautifully. New ones are going for double the price of the old ones. The ICD-PX312 is the next generation of the recorders many of us purchased in 2010, and if you purchased an ICD-PX820, then you need not purchase a new model for this season. Please contact me with questions or concerns.
